Oh, the million dollar question.. do you try to make a hundred different niche sites and make a little from each, or you do you make one big, kick azz site and work on monetizing that solely. This question bothers me every day, and I've yet to find the right answer, if there is in fact a correct answer. So what are the benefits and downfalls to each. If you want to go after the "One Big Site" idea, then once you have an idea (a big one), a budget, & a design, you have the luxury of focusing strictly on that one project, with no other distractions. Generally you're going to have a lot more competition for a large site idea than for small niche type sites. But hopefully the amount of traffic you can bring in will make it worth the efforts of getting the visitors. This is the "all eggs in one basket" approach to marketing.
On the flip side, if you can create 100 little sites, all making a couple bucks a day with which ever means you choose, then that's a pretty good way to make some coin as well. The downfall to this method is, lots of sites / pages to keep track of as well as building links, marketing, advertising for each of those sites enough to get them on auto-pilot and making money. So which method is going to be the most successful. Both, neither, a mix of both...who knows. Everyone's approach is going to be different, but in the end, it can't hurt to try out both methods and see which works best.
